Minutes of Public Regular Meeting –

There was a regular meeting of the Cable Advisory Council called to order at 7:02 p.m., Tuesday, July 12, 2011 by Vice Chair Carmella Amodeo at the Charter Communications facility, Newtown, Connecticut.
ATTENDEES: Carmella Amodeo (Newtown), Gregory Davis (Roxbury), George Linkletter (Sherman), Paul Katzmark (Southbury), Gene Rosen (Newtown).
From Charter: Greg Van Antwerp (Community Access).
PUBLIC INPUT: Carmella Daquila from Trumbull spoke on an issue that she is having with community access that involves a series of episodes focused on the life and achievements of Igor Sikorsky.
The document submitted to the Council by Ms. Daquila has been forwarded to Charter management so that they can review them and then contact Ms. Daquila. Ms. Aquila was assured that Charter management always reviews and comments on anything brought to the attention of the Council that is then forwarded to them.
The Council will also receive a copy of the guidelines for Community Access for review.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Approval of the minutes was tabled for the next meeting. Of those in attendance only two members had attended the May 10, 2011 meeting.
The treasurer not being able to attend, no report was given.
CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS REPORT.
Van Antwerp:
Community Access has been reaching out to Western Connecticut State University to create a partnership with their Public Communication department. The agreement has been drafted and has been forwarded to Charter management for signature.
The winter internship students all took part in a graduation ceremony and film festival. The summer internship began June 2nd with 9 members. Council member, George Linkletter, being one of them.
There was 2 truck shoot during last two months which included the Masuk High School graduation and the other covering the Fairfield County Fresh Air Fund Event.
CORRESPONDENCE:
Linkletter reported he had heard of issues of channels going dark late in the evening but, he had no formal complaint.
OLD BUSINESS:
Davis explained that at the recent meeting of the statewide video council, the council was going to issue two letters of endorsement. They are in favor of restructuring access to community access funds. Certified access provider certificates are available but are not being issued. Only those who already have this certificate would benefit from the bills being endorsed. He also highlighted that Charter’s Community Access is number 1 in the state.
Davies also stated that after his most recent service call, he believes that there is a difference in the pixilation issue on the different versions of the cable box. This was not confirmed by Charter.
We are still in need of a new recording secretary.
NEW BUSINESS:
The Council is in need of space for the storage of archived documents. Many in paper format. The suggestion was made that Charter consider offering the council a Cloud Drive account. The person taking over as the recording secretary may take on an additional task of converting the paper documents to electronic format.
ADJOURNMENT:
